This poem talks about those people who speak&teach about the "vedanta", but themselves do not put it into action. The path of Vedanta is not easy to follow. It needs lot of sincerity & realization to tread it. We find many people who keep talking about it to flaunt their knowledge, but fail to practise it. (Am I one among them?) Some people follow it in letter only, but in their minds they still yearn for worldly desires. But, the detachment should come from with in, without which external restraint is useless. The mind should be clean.
Meaning:
What is the use of perfunctorily following religious injunctions, if the mind is still churned by the six vices(desire, anger, greed, infactuation, vanity, envy)? How long would the sand castles built by children on sea shores stand? Aren't they wiped out by the waves? The heaven of peace is gained only when the mind is cleansed of the contamination!
